PAYMENTS, WITH CONTEXT

Cannabis Payment Options

Be clear about what is available.

An inquiry is not an application or approval.

Cannabis card processing is not currently offered.

One prospective referral provider has explicitly declined marijuana businesses. Other discussions have not established an approved route. This page is a place to clarify requirements, not an offer of a cannabis merchant account.

Distinguish the business you operate.

Identify whether you sell cannabis itself, hemp-derived products, or ancillary services such as software or equipment. An ancillary business must accurately describe its customers, services and money flow; it should not disguise sales of a restricted product.

  • Business location and all customer jurisdictions.
  • Exact products or ancillary services.
  • Licenses and business ownership structure where requested securely.
  • How orders are fulfilled and what payment method is proposed.

Avoid misleading payment descriptions.

Do not disguise products, misstate the merchant category or route transactions through an unrelated business. Ask the provider to explain in writing the payment method, participating institutions, permitted activity, customer disclosures and settlement process before using a proposed solution.

Keep an accurate record of the money flow.

Whatever lawful payment route your business ultimately uses, retain the sale, refund, fee and settlement records separately. Sympler’s bookkeeping subscription does not grant payment-processing approval.
